Link preview questions

What are Open Graph tags?

Open Graph tags are <meta> tags in a page's <head>, like og:title, og:description and og:image. Facebook created them, and LinkedIn, Slack, WhatsApp, iMessage and most chat apps now read them to build the card that appears when someone shares your link.

What size should my og:image be?

Use 1200×630 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio. That fills the large card on Facebook, LinkedIn and X without cropping and stays sharp on high-resolution screens. Keep the file under 1 MB as a JPG or PNG, and put important text away from the edges.

Do I need Twitter Card tags if I have Open Graph tags?

X falls back to Open Graph for the title, description and image, but it needs twitter:card set to summary_large_image to show the big image card. Without it you get a small square thumbnail.

I fixed my tags. Why does the old preview still show?

Platforms cache link previews, sometimes for weeks. Use Facebook's Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn's Post Inspector to force a refresh. On X and Slack, the new preview appears once the cache expires, usually within a day.

Is this checker free? Do you store the links I check?

It's free with no sign-up. The page is fetched once to read its tags and nothing is saved.
